As an adult, you spend most of your time at work. But what if you’re watching the clock everyday, waiting until it’s time to go home?

Lack of inspiration, low motivation, and just plain boredom at your job may be signs that you’ve burned out. Of course, everybody has days when they just don’t want to go to work. However, if days turn into weeks, months, and years, it might be time to think about a career change.

Sometimes, taking time off is a good short-term option. Travel somewhere new and exciting. Long-term, you could also ask for more responsibility at the office. Having a harder job might give you a new challenge to overcome. Otherwise, update your resume and look at job advertisements. Hopefully, you’ll be able to interview for a job you’ll love.

Learn who is unhappy with her job in this English lesson.

Jeff:  I get off work every day, and I’m so thankful that I love my job as much as I do. And I know not everyone feels that way.

Lily:  I am so burned out right now. I’ve been working the same job for so long, and I feel like I’m about to go off the deep end. The littlest task just makes me want to go crazy! I’m feeling really worn out right now.

Jeff:  You don’t look at anything in your job as a challenge to overcome, or…?

Lily:  Jeff, I work in data entry.

Jeff:  I feel like I’ve heard this before.

Lily:  It’s hard to be inspired and to feel motivated when you’re doing the same thing over and over again for eight hours a day. I’m going to strive to be more like you where I actually love my job and am proud of what I’m doing and feel like I’m making a dent in my life.

Jeff:  Yeah, I used to have jobs like that. No light at the end of the tunnel. It just keeps going.

Lily:  Well, I’ve been looking online, and I have a couple of leads on some new jobs. I’m just going to covertly interview for new things until I can find something I like.

Jeff:  You should do that, and if a position opens up where I work, I’ll let you know.

Lily:  Cool. Thank you very much.

Jeff tells Lily how much he loves his job, but she doesn’t feel the same way. Her days at work are long and boring. She’s totally burned out. If she stays at the company much longer, she thinks she’ll go crazy!

Since Lily doesn’t have anything exciting at work that she can look forward to, she wants to find a new job. She’s been looking at ads online and hopes to secretly interview with a new company. Jeff understands what it feels like to have a job that’s too easy. He wants Lily to have a challenge to overcome, and he says he’ll even tell her if a position opens at his office.

Have you ever felt burned out at work? What did you do about it? When do you think it’s time for a career change?

I´ve felt burned out at work before. I sat down with my boss and talked it through. I was lucky I was given more challenges to overcome. My advice is don´t hang on if you´re not happy with your work and you don´t see any possibility of improvement. You spend a lot of time at your job so it has to be something you like at least, otherwise feeling burned out is what´s left for you.

Yes,it`s normal to get burned somedays at work, specially when your work is repeated every day.I felt exhausted alot of time bcz my work is exhausting but money make me happy at the end.I think money is more important than getting burned out,so till i have good pay i will never even think to change my career!

Career change is not as easy that you can do it whenever you want, sometimes people are constriant by the conditions they have like knowledge, experience, age, family, etc.  So, if you can’t change the working environment, one can change the mindset to face everyday’s work.  Meaningful money to support your life, pay more attention to your love ones and keep a peaceful mind.

Have you ever felt burned out at work? What did you do about it? When do you think it’s time for a career change?

I am not a workaholic so I don’t think I have ever felt burned out at work before.

But I have passion for painting and doing crafts at home. If I love doing something, I often stay up late and wake up very early in the mornings. This schedule, of course, is not good for the health. However, thanks to my hubby, whenever I seemed forget the time and just focused on my projects, he is the one who remind me of the risk of work burnt out.

About the career change, I myself will decide to change my job when I find that the new job can bring me better opportunity to apply my knowledge and experience at a better level. Peace in mind is the most important factor to me. So the working environment should be suitable to me and that I can work harmoniously with others to build a good team.

I know a lot of information about that question, because some years ago I decided very resolutely to change my professional life and change my career of 180 degree. I have several big reasons for that important step. I can’t say that it was very easy and simple but finally I could do it and now I’m very glad that then I made that decision. I’m deeply convinced if you decide something, you need do all possible and impossible to achieve your goal. I know that sometimes the task can be very difficult and hard but practically any goal can be reach, if you have enough quantity of patience and effort. So I would like to wish much success and lucky everyone who dream about big goals. Let’s our dream and plans will be done!

Dear marwa

if you quit your job in the hope of getting rid of an irritating colleague you are wrong! Difficult coworkers do exist in every work places so instead of giving up we should look for a good way to deal with them.

Lack of inspiration and low motivation, are the reasons to make you careless and not really interesting in what you do and the worse when your boss use your hard work in front of the top management to get more promotions for himself, at this point you have to find an exit.

To be honest while i was having internship  the work i’m used to doing was making me burned out.I’d been doing same tasks that i was given every single day.Just as archiving documents and data entry in accounting software program which has been used by the firm.So I havent seen any light end of the tunnel and i started working in auditing profession which has more challenge to overcome although it’s stressed job but i enjoy challenge and i dont like my work turns into routine job that makes me less motivated and decreases my enthusiasm.

In speaking about changing career im already newer at my job but i dont think i can bear lots of responsibilites and stressful days and nights.

Sometimes you like your job but the problem is a difficult coworker who turns everything to a nightmare espacially when they are the boss’s favorite. In such situation you never want to go to work, you dread being there you watch the clock everyday and you easily go off the the deep end.

it`s probably a meaningless question for me , since i dont need to go to work everyday and at the exact time, however i have 2-3 jobs but they all are flexible ones. i can do them whenever i want in the day even at the midnight in my home, so it has a lot of inspirations, challenges and motivations .if i`m forced to watching my clock , it would be for drinking a tea or taking a nap :D

and i hope every person all over this universe has these oportunities for her/his job. maybe you ask me how did you get these jobs? i can say since i`m not a person who can adapt herself to these kinda works , so initially i`ve chosen some works which are flexible to do :)

I’m a workaholic by nature. For me swimming and working is the best that can be invented in life. So, I’m never burned out of it. On the contrary, after hard work or workout, you feel so happy. Don’t get me wrong that I’m happy it’s over, no, I’m happy that it’s done and new challenge is ahead!

beeing burnt out …. welll it happens … sometimes. It’s normal and it doesn’t mean that you have to change your job. I’m happy man cause … next year it will be 20 years being in the same company :). I’m not thinking well about my top managment (they change so quickly :)) and the way they are runing this business but my work is so interesting … there is no time for routine … each project is different and gives oportunity to learn something new and to meet knew people. I was for 10 years at the middle level menagment position … yeeeh that was the time I was really burned out. But 2 years ago I resigned from this and went back to the engineering job …. and now I again go in the morning to my office with the pleasure.
