We live in a world with amazing new technology! It’s possible to learn more about ourselves than ever before. But is this information good for us? For example, the company 23andMe can create a genetic report for you. With just a small amount of DNA, they can tell you if you have specific preexisting issues. This information could help you with preventative care.

However, some people do not want to know this much about their health. They don’t want to deal with the stress of knowing these future possibilities. Someone who feels this way might be afraid of becoming a hypochondriac. They might panic and spend hours doing research on WebMD. No matter how you feel about 23andMe, it is an interesting example of modern technology.

Romeo thinks that knowledge is power and wants to get a report from 23andMe. Listen to today’s English lesson to find out how Andy feels.

Romeo:  So, I was thinking about joining 23andMe….

Andy_H:  Yeah, I heard about this site. I don’t really have any want to do that.

Romeo:  So, you’re not about preventative care?

Andy_H:  It’s not that, it’s just I know that my parents have a lot of preexisting issues, and honestly, I don’t want to think about that constantly. I’m going to become a hypochondriac. It’s going to be worse than going on WebMD and thinking I have cancer for a toothache.

Romeo:  It’s not like people are telling you when you’re going to die, and now you have knowledge of that.

Andy_H:  But, I mean, isn’t it?

Romeo:  In a way, yeah. But knowledge is power, right? I mean, maybe, you could use it for preventative measures, you know?

Andy_H:  You do bring up a good point there. It’s just I don’t know if I could deal with the mental stress. Do some more research, and tell me what you’ve found out.

Romeo:  I think I could do that.

Andy_H:  OK.

Romeo:  I’ll put a little report together for you. How about that?

Andy_H:  Please, please.

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Romeo tells Andy that he is thinking about joining 23andMe. Andy is not interested in doing this. He knows that his parents have a lot of health problems, and he doesn’t want to think about all of the possible health problems he might have in the future. In fact, he’s afraid that he would become a hypochondriac with this much information.

Romeo isn’t afraid. He believes that knowledge is power, and he wants to use his genetic report to prevent future health problems. He thinks that 23andMe can help him to do this. Romeo tells Andy that he will do more research. Then, he will tell Andy if he still thinks that it’s a good idea to join 23andMe.

Would you like to know about your future health? Do you use preventative care?

23andme = Clairvoyant = mental health problems.
The more you empower others to tell you about your future the less you control your life and your choices. That will surely deprived you of couarge and make you psycologically dependent person. It should not be confused with when your body is telling you that you are not feeling well and you book an appointment with your GP for dignosis. However, sending dna samples to 23andme and to be curious about assumption regarding your future health is like getting mental health problems in life. AVOID SUCH UTTER NONESENSE!!!

Well, it is not healthy to become hypochondriac, but I agree with Romeo, “knowledge is power” in the proper balance of course!
