When you first become good at something, it’s an amazing feeling. Maybe, you learned how to play cards, and now you’re beating all of your friends. Or perhaps, you learned how to create a great illusion so it looks like you disappear in front of people’s eyes. You might have a bunch of talent, but what happens when you stop practicing? You might lose your skills. If it’s been awhile, you may need to do the activity to see if you’ve still got it.

A person might say that they’ve still got it, when they successfully try something after a long time of not doing that thing. If you stop playing cards for ten years, but you can still beat your friends, then you’ve still got it. If you stop practicing your illusion, but you can still disappear, then you’ve still got it.

In today’s English soap opera, Kelsey and Andy play a game of ping-pong. Watch to see if they’ve still got their ping-pong skills.

3. Watch - Watch the video without reading the dialog.

Kelsey:  It’s been awhile since I’ve played ping-pong. I used to be really good at this.

Andy_H:  I play every day. Helps me clear my head.

Kelsey:  All right! I’ve still got it! Well, maybe, not all of it…

Andy_H:  I’m excited for the cooking and magic show. We could make a bunch of these.

Kelsey:  It’s nice to be doing something fun. I need to expand my friend network.

Andy_H:  Growing your social network can be fun, but you’re excited for the show, right? The magic… the intrigue… the illusion

Kelsey:  Yes! I mean, you’re making brownies for me. That’s exciting! And I’m beating you at ping-pong.

Nestor:  OK, I never thought I’d say this, but I’m ready to film your magic cooking show.

Kelsey:  OK, one more. Andy, do you have the ball?

Andy_H:  Looks like I’ve still got it!

Kelsey:  Ouch! You can make it appear, and I can make it disappear! OK, now I’m ready! Maybe, we should make a video where I can show Andy how to play ping-pong!

Kelsey and Andy begin playing ping-pong. In the past, Kelsey was a great ping-pong player, but she hasn’t played in a while. Andy likes to play every day. It helps him to relax. Today, he is really excited about making a bunch of magic cooking videos. Kelsey is less excited. She’s thinking about getting more friends in her network.

Andy wants to make sure that Kelsey is also excited about the intrigue and illusion of his magic cooking. She is having fun beating him at ping-pong. Suddenly, Nestor pops in. He is actually going to help them make their videos. Andy and Kelsey are quite happy and play one more round of ping-pong. However, Kelsey’s still got it, and Andy just can’t beat her.

Which of your childhood skills have you still got? Is it easy for you to do things without practicing them?
