An article that appeared this Thursday in the German newspaper “Südwest Presse” says that contrary to common belief the people poaching rhinos and elephants in Africa often are not poor men who have no alternatives, but warlords, militant extremists and militias opposing their government and even corrupt, politically active people who hope to earn enough money through the trade with ivory to get more influence.
Nor are they stupid people who wouldn’t hurt a thing and due to their low IQ and uneducated state don’t understand the harm they do by shooting elephants. There have been numerous cases in which they killed gamekeepers – in Congo for example it is said that poachers murder one gamekeeper per month – by setting well-planned traps and ambushes. In addition to that they seem to be well-educated when it comes to firearms. In some carcasses they found bullets belonging to some of the most modern semi-automatic guns a citizen can buy and in some cases rangers even saw these poachers with their supply of modern weapons – which by the way doesn’t only disprove the idea of poachers being uneducated and not knowing anything about the world as they obviously have profound knowledge of the gun-industry, but the fact that they have the money to buy a whole arsenal of some of the most modern weapons also disproves the idea of them being poor.
Anyway Central-Africa is heading towards an economical disaster, because of this as they lost 70% of the elephants that were there just one decade ago and of course most tourists visit this country just to see the elephants, meaning no elephants equals hard times for the tourism-branch.

According to “Domradio” in the Central-African Republic 1,3 millions of people are underfed while 1,5 millions of citizens are so poor that 86 millions of dollars would be required by the UN-aid-organization FAO to help them get out of financial instability permanently. Furthermore just aiding those peasants who are most in need of some assistance would cost 36,5 millions of dollars…that is if you want to make sure they don’t slip back into poverty anytime soon.

I know that an Imam and a Roman-Catholic bishop may not be the best people to convince non-Catholics or non-Muslims that the Central-African conflict really has nothing to do with Catholics respectively Muslims, but just on Tuesday the second “Domradio” reported about how an Imam and a Catholic arch-bishop from the Central African Republic – I don’t know how to write their names – received the peace-prize “Aachener Friedenspreis”: In an interview these two gentlemen state:
>This conflict definitely is about military-political power and raw material and definitely not religion. When at the beginning of this war the opposing groups stated their demands none of them was referring to God, JHWH, Allah or to the Bible, respectively the Koran. No Christian or Muslim cleric ever lead these groups. In fact you may even find in these militant groups people who wear heathen amulets.
>While it may happen that extremist Muslim rebels temporary cooperate with groups like Boko Haram, these are only temporary and occasional aliances and they don’t cause more harm than extremism already did to this country. After all terrorists have nowhere to throw their bombs as in almost every place you will find Christians and Muslims alike.
>To an observant person it may make more sense to blame the political system, that allows it to happen that such a small number of people is allowed to go to school or to start an apprenticeship and that only the elite is doing well without financial, economical or even medical problems.

>Re-upload 1: According to the website where I found it, this is a former street child living in the Central African Republic. Fortunately he has now a chance of education and a better life. If you want to know more about street children in this area you definetly should visit this website “http://www.merlin.org.uk/Where-we-work/Central-African-Republic.aspx”. There you even get the chance to get involved if you want to.

Re-upload 4: “Domradio” says that in the Central-African Republic around 50% of its citizens depend on aid by the state which is also bad because due to corruption and violations of human rights in the past as well as recent cases in which the Central-African government neglected some cities and preferred aiding the others many people start losing trust in this government.
In a situation like this it is very worrying that ordinary citizens achieve guns they get from militant groups in Congo.
Right now Central-Africa counts 500.000 refugees and 1.000 victims of riots and political fights.
Even the agricultural sector – which in most LDCs is the strongest sector – isn’t doing too well. People get ousted by opposing groups and doing agricultural work has become unpopular and undesirable as people consider it as risky to live in an urban, underpopulated area with rioting and fighting militant groups straying around everywhere.
Due to this difficult situation many aid-organizations are overstrained and don’t do more than emergency-aid.
The only organization that does more than just that right now is the “Welthungerhilfe” – Deutsche Welthungerhilfe e.V. Sparkasse KölnBonn Conto: 1115 IBAN: DE15370501980000001115 BIC: COLSDE33.

>For the first time in quite a while I’ve been to church in the religious community of my own village instead of other villages or cities last Sunnday: Leaving all the typically religious stuff aside the priest preached that: Now that it’s summer and thus very hot even we /those who can simply go to the fridge and then drink or eat something cold realize the importance of clean water and healthy food. In many other countries the situation is very different from that as they don’t have access to clean water, often have to feed on unhealthy /way too old food and usually feed way too one-dimensional as for many sorts of food they simply are too poor to buy. Also he told us not to just accept this like this was some kind of necessary evil.
>When I went to church last Sunday, they spread some leaflets there concerning the disease Buruli ulcer and an aid-organization that helps patients: When we think of deadly diseases that threaten hundreds of people in Africa each year, most of us think of HIV, Ebola, malaria, yellow fever or leprosy. Due to the fact that so little is known about how this disease is transmitted and also due to this disease usually not killing the infected person, Buruli ulcer is ignored by most media. However our church community decided that this disease as well as the organization that helps patients should mentioned nonetheless:
Buruli ulcer weakens the immune system and dissolves soft tissue to the point of the infected person either being dead – due to the immune system not being able to fend off diseases anymore – or paralysed – due to too much tissue being destroyed – or scarred. Combinations are also possible.
Anyway the tricky thing is that this disease doesn’t cause any pain. Not even children find this disease in any way painful. Thus they usually don’t discover that something is wrong until it is too late. Then even if you find out that something isn’t right and you rush to the closest doctor, you have to be very lucky in a country like Central Africa – where most cases are reported – if you get to a doctor who is skilled enough to recognize this as Buruli ulcer, if the doctor wants to see you immediately and if there is a hospital nearby that has the gadgets and the skilled stuff needed to treat you.

In Central Africa the leaders of eight rebellious groups signed a treaty in which they promised to set all their child-soldiers free and not to use child-soldiers anymore. That’s what “Tagesschau” reported on Tuesday.
