Summer is the time for weddings. I’ve already been to two this year, and I’ll be going to Tanis’ in a few weeks. Luckily, a part of almost every wedding is music. Music is usually played at the beginning and end of the wedding ceremony, and in some ceremonies people sing in the middle too.
The wedding reception after the wedding is almost always filled with music. Whether there’s a live band or a DJ, the reception is a time for celebration and excitement, so the music is usually high-spirited and uplifting. I’m excited about going to Tanis’ wedding because I’m sure she’ll have good music. Her family and friends love to dance, so the reception should be a lot of fun!
Read on to learn more about the music Tanis is planning for her wedding.

Tanis

Migs:   Tanis, what kind of music are you going to play at your wedding?

Tanis:   Oh my gosh. Good question. I think we just want to have it be, you know, fun party music – dance music. I love to dance.

Migs:   So like, 50’s, 60’s, Oldies music, or new party music, or 80’s, or what?

Tanis:   We have a pretty eclectic mix. Um, there’s gonna be a lot. I think, mostly I just love well-known songs that everyone sings and dances to, so I tried to get a lot of songs like that. So there’s stuff from, you know, the 40’s through today.

Migs:   Oh, that’s sounds cool. So do you and your fiance have, like, a special song, something meaningful that you’re going to dance to?

Tanis:   Well, I think we’re going to dance to uh, Tony Bennett singing “Stepping Out with My Baby.” But, um, just ‘cause I really like that song and we made up a dance to it. But um, I also like that song “My One and Only Love” and I like, uh, Ben Harper singing “Beloved One.” Those are songs I love.

Migs:   What about the one where you dance with your dad? Isn’t that a kinda special song too?

Tanis:   Yeah, I think that I’m gonna, I want them to play, uh, “Ruby,” but I hope he doesn’t hear that because I want to surprise him. But he loves that song.

Migs:   Who sings “Ruby?”

Tanis:   Um, my dad’s favorite version is sung by, uh, who’s that one blind guy that everyone loves… Ray Charles!

Discussion

Tanis obviously has it all planned out. She’s having a DJ at her wedding, so she was able to tell him in advance which songs she wants him to play. Hopefully, he’ll follow her requests and play lots of great dance music.
What kind of music do people play at weddings in your country? At wedding receptions? Come to the Music Mix message board and let us know!
Rock on,
Migs
