When you are aware of something, or when you are considering something, it is on the radar. For example, bird flu was identified in Vietnam a number of years ago, but it came on the radar worldwide only recently. If you have a deadline for a work or school project, it is on your radar.

The movie put her on the radar in Hollywood, meaning that major movie directors and producers now know her name.
