“I thought, maybe I should show a different side of me, ‘cause everyone assumes I’m like this spoiled rotten girl who couldn’t do anything. And I thought, Why can’t I work at McDonald’s? Or work on a farm? It’s something I’ll never get to experience ever. So we did it for four weeks.”
- Paris Hilton, Hilton Hotels heiress, actress, model and designer, talking about being in the reality TV show The Simple Life.

Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

given everything one wants in life; extremely pampered

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

Spoiled” is a very important term to know, because it applies to many people. A person who is “spoiled” has been given everything s/he wanted when s/he was a child (usually by his/her parents). Because of this, the person is unable to work hard for the things s/he wants. S/he expects to get everything s/he wants forever, without having to work hard to get it.
Paris Hilton is lucky, because her family has lots of money and she’ll always be rich. However, many other spoiled people aren’t so fortunate. They may have been “spoiled” when they were children, but when they get older they have to provide for themselves. That can be very difficult.

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

””Marie is spoiled rotten. I’m so tired of her. She’s always complaining about how life is so hard and how she doesn’t have enough money and on and on. She just needs to learn that she’s not always going to get everything she wants in this life. It’s just not that easy.”“

””I was really spoiled when I was a kid. I was an only child, so my parents bought me lots of toys and pretty much let me do anything I wanted. I think I’m OK now though. I realize that things aren’t as easy now.”“

””Dude, you’re so spoiled. Your girlfriend does everything for you. She cooks dinner for you every night. She does all your laundry. She cleans the whole house every week. Is there anything she doesn’t do for you?”“
