Hi Friends!
I was surprised to learn that one of the most popular Sports in America is NASCAR Racing. I have never been to a NASCAR event, but John went with a friend last week to check out some races. Listen below as he tells Migs about his experience!

John: I checked out Portland International Raceway last weekend.
Migs: What was going on out there?
John: Well for the Rose Festival, here, in Portland they were doing some car races. You ever seen car racing before?
Migs: I’ve seen it on TV, like Indy 500 and stuff, but what kind of cars were they?
John: I don’t know what they call them, but, uh, there were different ones. Some were like Formula One cars, only a lot smaller. and uh, there was, there were a couple classes that were just normal cars like Mazdas, Volkswagons and cars like that so it was pretty funny!
Migs: Were they normal people driving them or professional race car drivers?
John: I’m sure they were professionals. I think they’re on a tour that goes around the Northwest or the West Coast or something, but… man, those cars are so loud! They didn’t go very fast- probably about a hundred miles an hour, but…
Migs: Were there a lot of people there?
John: Yeah, there were a lot of people. I’d say… maybe a couple thousand. And uh, you know, we watched the races for awhile and then we went around through the pits and watched them work on all the cars, and then went back to all the trailers where the team sits and uh, prepares the cars for the races and cleans them afterwards. It was pretty cool!
Migs: Are you gonna go back every weekend now?
John: Maybe if a big race comes back to town I’ll go again. But otherwise, it’s probably not my favorite spectator sport.

John’s trip to the Race Track is one of the first times he was ever exposed to Car Racing. John doesn’t know very much about NASCAR, but it sounds like he had a good time seeing what all the fuss was about!
Even though John had a good time at the race track, there are quite a few clues that indicate he wasn’t very excited about NASCAR.
1) He never talks very fast when telling Miguel about his experience.
2) He had more fun walking around and looking at the people than he did watching the cars race.
3) John isn’t very interested in going to see the races again. He says he would only go if there was a big race that came into town.
If you have questions about NASCAR please write to us on the Anything Else Message Board! I hope you all have a wonderful week and hope that you are having a nice June so far!!!
